One tripod leg

The lore behind magick is only one tripod leg. Even there it's about real mastery, not rote recitation. I call it moving beyond the recipe. When you can adapt your technique to what is there and what is needed with a minimum of effort, that's mastery. The lore is about core ideas, not specific practices. That's one of the hardest lessons I've had to learn and I am not good enough with it yet.

Most heathens and neopagans would tell you that we don't believe in Original Sin. We don't think we come into this World corrupt. Animism means

…animism means that all things have a spiritual nature that is reflected in the World itself. You can't hurt or damage another without striking at yourself. Non-duality is a great idea. Getting certain monotheists to see it's virtue is amazingly difficult. Anybody who can pull that off has my respect.

No matter how beautiful the form, god inspired crafting is meant to be used. It's dishonorable to receive a gift from the gods and put it on a shelf just to look at on special occasions.
Okay, so yes, it's self-referential.

I think godmasks are representations and gateways to Divinity, not actually Divinity. Divinity itself (thisself? hisself? herself? theirself? thatself?), well, that's beyond our comprehension. It would be like us trying to explain the MetLife Company to an ant. First you have to teach them ideas, then language, then money, and so on.

Is it just a conceit that the Divine exists? Possibly. I'd like to think that while the godmask is influenced by human worship and expectation, the Divine behind the godmask is real and something terrifyingly amazing and unbound by human limits.

Gnostic beliefs

One of the precepts in Gnostic beliefs is that the commonly accepted "creator god" isn't the actual creator at all. He's actually a son who turned against his Parents to seize control of creation for his own selfish needs and had to lie to humans to do it. His mother, Sophia, decided to do something to turn things back the way they should be, and that is where Yeshua ben Yosef (among others) came from. It makes sense when you think of the G*D from the Old Testament as a spoiled teenager who steals from his parents and parties too hard.

I thought I was called to the ministry and that is why I hadn't found fulfillment in my life.

When I finally did here the voice of the Divine, it was female. And She was more than a bit put out that it had taken so long to get my attention.

Those who walk between the worlds

A clarification.

Back in the 1970s and 1980s there were a couple of traditions that called practitioners "those who walk between the worlds." Some of that may have gone back further. A couple of my teachers were from these trads and I appropriated the phrase. To my knowledge, there was no sexuality or gender preference attached to the phrase.
Comments

So the paganism bothers you too.

Do you really expect to make this about your religious beliefs versus mine?

I don't need to justify mine before you, but you need to make mine subordinate to yours.

The original Earth Day was introduced on the 1970 vernal equinox by John McConnell intending to celebrate the Earth and peace.

Celebrate your beliefs and cherish your faith. All I ask is the same. Just don't demand that my beliefs and actions are bound by yours. Live and let live.

What you believe isn't important to me. Your freedom to choose what to believe, that is vital. That is what I will defend

Those Who Want To Be Noticed

I think the real issue is Those Who Want To Be Noticed. That's probably an oversimplification, but at this point I am going to accept it as a working assumption.

It's not that they believe, it's that they need the perception of others to validate their belief. I've talked about that need for validation before too.

Loudest voices

When it comes to Paganism, the voices of reason on the internet are getting harder and harder to find. And I am not just talking about the politics, although that is part of it too. Common sense is getting buried in the noise. It's below all the grandstanding and costuming. Like it or not, the face of modern Paganism is defined by what's on TV and the glitzy inaccurate websites.

The loudest voices are those who are disconnected from life. And those are the ones I don't want to be associated with.

Full-blown plan

Very rarely, I will encounter something and a full-blown plan will pop into my head without me having to think about it at all, along with the absolute certainty that it will work. These always work. I have no idea if these plans come from my higher selves, my gods, or any of my various allies. They just work without a hitch.

I can’t hoard the magick

Gifts from the gods were not meant to be put behind glass and never used. I can’t hoard the magick. I have to put it back out in the world.

If there is one thing I wish I could literally pound into Christian heads, it's this: Christianity is not the source of all that is good and righteous in our society. Other cultures and other faiths have contributed heavily. I am pagan

It started with a little tweaking and I got carried away.

I spent WAY too much time yesterday on this site.

The first big difference is the site header. I was never really happy with the background image of bubbles, so it’s gone. That meant the logo banner needed to be repositioned. While I was at it I wanted to make the title fonts a little more fun. Then I needed to clean up the sidebar.

I wanted to highlight the site slogan.

And so on.

The one thing I haven’t done that I really wanted was to make the site logo a clickable link. It’s not been for lack of trying. It works now.

Enjoy.

Pagan anti-environmentalist

Environmentalism is a political movement. It’s about controlling other people to achieve utopia. It’s about closing yourself off from the possibilities.

I don’t want to be limited by the word “environmentalism” anymore. I don’t think ecology is about saving the Earth. I think it’s about understanding how things fit and the tradeoffs we make. It’s about looking at where we were, where we are, and where we could go.

Take the power that is your Divine right, look the bullies straight in the eye, and proudly claim your humanity and Paganism in that order. You don't have rights because you are a Pagan and because you have to be protected. You have rights and privileges because you are HUMAN.

Patterns

The patterns we see in the universe may be nothing more than longing and human conceit. But if using those patterns gives us a desired result, then the patterns are a useful fiction. The point is that the ‘I' part of you, the ego, gets sent out for snacks while the universe has it's way with the rest of you.
