Winter
Today marks the midpoint between autumnal equinox and the winter solstice. In many old calendars and almanacs, today is the beginning of winter. It’s a cross-quarter day.
It also means that today is the middle day of Wintergate, a High Holiday for my WebTree path. It’s the last harvest.
In the traditional calendar, Samhain is on October 31st. But the actual solar year is a few days later.
In terms of mythology, it’s when the Dark One banishes his weird to the Underworld so he can rule unchallenged. For a while.
Today here in my desert, it’s sunny but cooler. I’m typing this at the dining room table and the western sun is throwing long shadows through the southern window.
I’m invited to one of my companion’s home tonight. I think it will be a movie night. Among other things.
