When I started blogging I deliberately kept my politics and my faith mostly separate. I absolutely believe that religion can’t be allowed the coercive power of government and government can’t be allowed the moral justification of religion.

So a few days ago on I was reading a book review on the Wild Hunt. I knew it was one of those arguments I could never “win” because I am not a progressive and I do not think that there should be “top down” governing of people. I made the minimum argument necessary, hopefully people will figure out the logic on their own.

But as I was reading the post and the comments, it hit me again. Here were folks who were using their religion to justify politics.

Exactly how is that different from the People of the Book?

Somewhere American pagans went from an experienced faith to Revealing the Divine complete with our own Prophets with their own five point plan for saving the world. All you have to do is Believe what they are saying without question and without reservation.

It sickens me now just as it did when my overenthusiastic Christian relatives did it.

People have to find their own way. Just because you claim to speak for the Earth doesn’t mean you are Divinely appointed to control other people.
