Fundamental principles
The last couple of weeks I've had to bite my tongue and smile as certain Christians tried to "save" me. Normally I would have responded in a way that would have put a stop to it, but no, I had to be sociable for the family. I can bear that that for a while, but it drives me up the wall.
What is it about sickness and family that convinces some people it is time to proselytize?
So between my stepdad, my friend, and my regular life, I've been fairly isolated and out of touch with the Pagan side of things. At least for anything other than my private rites.
Naturally I got to meet the Pagan equivalent.
I was told very authoritatively that the first great battle in the Big War was coming and it was time for me to choose sides.
So I asked what would happen if they didn't rise to the challenge.
That earned me a very dirty look.
For the life of me, I don't know what the trespass is.
For all the rhetoric on all sides, I really don't see the need to draw swords and face off in eternal battle.
And if I know anything, I know that kind of confrontation BEFORE the first blow has been struck will play into the fundamentalist's hands. It will be taken as proof that the FAITH WAR is inevitable.
This is not the time to retreat into dogma.
If we want to resolve this, we have to move the discussion from religious issues to human rights issues. That is the only thing that will defang the Christian fundies before they get started.
And ours as well.
