What's the difference between a ponytail and a beartail?

One of the few style questions that I will answer
Most men's ponytails start at the nape of the neck.
Originally my beartail started there, but it's moved about three finger breadths higher.
But the big thing that sets a beartail apart is that it is doubled under so it looks like a bear tail. And from the front, it makes my hair look much shorter than it actually is. Almost respectable, by golly. But from the back, it makes people do a double take if they aren't used to it.
My original idea was to go with a variation of the simple tie back that some of the American Founders wore. But it evolved, with a little nudging.
And yes, it was named in honor of Bear.
