The Greatest ThingMusings on women, love, and
respect
So yesterday afternoon wasn't exactly my own
after all. My mother had a dentist appointment and she ended up taking pain
killers. So she didn't feel like she should drive, and she had some errands.
Then she had some sort of reaction to the medication and I wasn't going to leave
her alone until that passed. We ended up watching a
DVD.
Anyway, though all this I was thinking about possible lyrics to change Billy Joel's "She's Always A Woman" (see the comments on this post) into something about Nature and more Pagan-related. And got me to thinking about the nature of ladies and womanhood and the women I have known. Then this morning I read some LiveJournal posts by happydog, lupa (this one is filtered and with good reason), and moonvoice (also filtered for a good reason). As a Red Blooded American Male™, I can tell you that the standard of female beauty is not nearly as restricted as Hollywood would have you believe. These are not the things that our popular culture celebrates, but they are what the culture builds on. I'm not talking about motherhood and who is best in the sack and who looks good draped off of someone's arm. I'd admit it. I'm single and I enjoy the occasional bit of casual sex. I'll fuck almost any willing female if the circumstances are right. But usually the circumstances aren't right. Unless you're heavily into the party scene, most ladies aren't that interested in the casual sex thing. Especially as the guy gets older. At that point the "perfect body" become a lot less important than the things that live inside that body. Let's look at the lyrics of that Billy Joel song, which is one of the things that sparked this train of thought anyway. She can kill with a
smile
She can wound with her eyes She can ruin your faith with her casual lies And she only reveals what she wants you to see She hides like a child, But she's always a woman to me She can lead you to love She can take you or leave you She can ask for the truth But she'll never believe you And she'll take what you give her, as long as it's free Yeah, she steals like a thief But she's always a woman to me This song is not about a healthy, well adjusted personality. On either side. So here's some things that I have learned over the years. Make of it what you will. The lady always
chooses.
There is only one thing more enticing than a woman being sexy on her own terms. That's a woman discovering how to be sexy on her own terms. Sex can be casual, seduction never is. Sex stops at orgasm, seduction never does. Sex can come by instinct, seduction is hard work. The only sex organ that really matters is the brain. If it's going to be a relationship, you'd better find at least seven things besides sex to talk about. Build on that. Pillow talk is important. No better place to learn hopes and dreams and pains and shames. Nudity is not sex. Sex is not love. If she doesn't challenge your thoughts, feelings, and assumptions, you might as well be masturbating. If you don't do that to her, SHE might as well be masturbating. All Women are Goddess and deserve to be Cherished, unless they prove otherwise. I guess that's really it. What she looks like isn't as important as how she thinks and what she believes about herself. Sure there is something in the biology that finds the idea of a helpless female attractive. But I am more than my biology, at least I hope so. Who wants a slave when you can have a partner? But heck, Nat King Cole sang it better in Nature Boy. There was a
boy
A very strange enchanted boy They say he wandered very far, very far Over land and sea A little shy and sad of eye But very wise was he And then one day A magic day he passed my way And while we spoke of many things Fools and kings This he said to me "The greatest thing you’ll ever learn Is just to love and be loved in return" Bright & Dark Blessings, folks.
