I wasn't ready…but I will be next time. Time to
rethink my wards and protections.
Okay, so let's talk about
company.
I've said before I'm a son of the South, at least where it comes to duty. And hospitality. I alternate between being a loner and being a semi-party guy, depending on my mood. But one of the Great Unspoken Southern Rules means that if I invite you into the house, you're probably going to get something to eat even if I am not that hungry. Or even if I am not feeling that sociable. You're the honored guest and my wants are secondary during your visit. Yes, that can make sex interesting. So nice of you to notice… Anyway, if you are family or clan, that places another onus on me. Because at that point you don't necessarily need an invitation for a place to stay, it's understood. Especially if it's Northern Arizona during a holiday weekend. I may not like it, but family or clan comes before what I like. The nice thing is that these are not the evangelical relatives who felt betrayed when I accepted that I was Pagan. It was their kids. Definitely some issues there, but not nearly as bad as it could have been. And Mom hosted part of the crowd at her place, the ones with kids of their own. For some strange reason, the general consensus was that my place wasn't kid friendly. Personally I think that is an overreaction, but hey, I don't have kids. Since this was a younger and more accepting batch of relatives, the nudes in the living room didn't create as much conflict as they have with other people. So far, so good. Except with the digging outside, my wards are shot. With the emotional stress, my paranoia was kicking into overdrive. And that is a bit of a problem, really, because most spell attacks are self-inflicted. Not a good thing to have with company. So it took a little bit to bring under control. Which is one reason I am really glad that I have a private altar in my sanctum, the NeoDen. There were a couple of incidents the first day or so, especially as we were feeling each other out. I'm going to do a full consecration at the next full moon (AFTER the new street is laid) and I will do my spell weaving then. This was a learning experience. And I'll be changing the ward design. I need less of a fortress I think. Can't let the paranoia win all the time.

Pagan philosopher, libertarian, and part-time trouble maker, NeoWayland looks at keeping truths alive despite a wash of nonsense. But don't be surprised when he's doing the "nekkid Pagan guy" thing.
