Artificial rhythmsThe Tuesday entry and why this blog isn't
published seven days a week
One of the things that makes my life interesting
is that I have bouts of insomnia. I'll go a week or two or three with about
three to five hours of sleep daily, and then totally crash for a couple of days
and get about twelve or fourteen hours. Towards the end, it is all I can do to
stay awake enough for the routine stuff, much less the deep
thinking.
My spellcraft and this blog are among the things that take the biggest hit. Unlike my political blog where I usually react to or comment on the current news, this blog is mostly me. It's also about parts of my life which I still don't feel entirely comfortable sharing. I suspect my insomnia has more to do with trying to keep to artificial patterns than anything else. I come from a long line of farmers, people who were awake at dawn and ready to wind down within an hour or so after sunset. That is my natural schedule, although over the years I've learned to adjust. If I am really wrapped up in a project, I can forgo sleep. If I am not too tired, I can still catch a catnap almost anywhere and anytime. In fact, I have come to accept that I am project-oriented rather than task-oriented. When I am on a schedule, then it is almost totally imposed. My Palm wakes me up, and my cell phone goes off just a couple of minutes after that. To stop both, I have to get up out of bed. Even my days off are a little too regimented, I hit the post office and do my laundry on the same day. Part of this is the AS, patterns and particularly those pattens I control comfort me. I am not fond of pills anyway, so sleeping pills aren't really an option. Long story short, Tuesday and Wednesday I collapsed and slept. Sorry about that. It happens from time to time, especially if nothing absolutely critical is on the schedule. The real solution is too find something to replace the-job-that-pays-the-bills so I can fall back into my natural rhythms on a regular basis.

Pagan philosopher, libertarian, and part-time trouble maker, NeoWayland looks at keeping truths alive despite a wash of nonsense. But don't be surprised when he's doing the "nekkid Pagan guy" thing.
