Mind spirit body worldA bit of an additon.
I guess what I was really talking about in my
post earlier today wasn't so much the physical and magickal ingredients as much
as it was being prepared.
I'm in my sanctum writing this, these days my usual non-ritual sanctum garb is a colored t-shirt and some overalls. Not because I like the way overalls look, but because they have pockets. Even without any "projects" going on, I have my #2 tool pouch, my cell phone, and a bandanna or two in my pockets. It looks bad, but I have the stuff I need for almost anything. Including my calming ritual. There's a 2 AA cell Maglite in my number two, and single cell AAA Maglite Solitaire in my #3. Both those need to be tested regularly so I have what I may need. I throw together my #1 as needed, but most of it's components live in my toolchest. Magickally I have a few general purpose tools I keep on me most of the time. I've talked about my grandfather's key before. Much easier to explain than a ritual knife, and often more flexible in use. A couple of "pretty stones" here and there. Sometimes a pinch or two of powder in paper packets. A bit of leather cord. Boy that takes me back. I used to pick up "interesting rocks" as a kid. Sometimes I could barely keep my pants on. Sometimes the "tool" is knowing where and when. I have accessible bits of desert all around me that I use for this, that, and the other thing. That was something else I learned as a kid. There was this one sandstone outcropping that usually was just perfect for flying kites. It extended about sixty or so feet out from the mesa. When the wind blew most of the time, you never had to run, you could just throw your kite up. The other part of the time, the wind would blow your kite right into the power lines. Over by Lee's Ferry just before the Colorado dips into the Grand Canyon, there's a very secluded spot away from the fishermen where you can stand knee deep in the river and do some very interesting casting. Yes, running water can wash away most magick but it can also bring magick and insight to you if you are patient. A fair tramp off the Mt. Lemmon highway there is a cleft valley where one wind spirit whispers secrets in your ear. If you are willing to walk a bit in Monument Valley, there is a whole chorus that will tease your sight and smell with things you never dreamt of. Just southeast of the extinct volcano we call Flagstaff, there is a place filled with songs and memories of fire and magma where today's forest is nothing more than dust on an eternal flame just barely sleeping. Best only to walk through the dreams of that one, but it still has something to teach you. These are not places marked on a map. The only way to find them is to wander through. The only way to use them more than once is to treat them right and remember. Otherwise you'll never find them again. Even if you are in the same exact physical place. Mind, spirit, body, world can only become regular tools if you prepare and practice.
