ugh-politics

The personal is so not political.
Read that again.
And once more.
I am so tired of everything being political. My ice cream flavors aren't political. My cleaning products are not political. My sports team names are not political. My sexuality is not political
Most importantly, my faith is not political.
I separated my political blogging from my religious blogging because I wanted my views on faith and magick accepted by pagans, even as I knew that my libertarian beliefs would not be.
Now I just don't care.
Since Donald Trump got the Republican nomination for President, virtually all my pagan reading online and ALL of my pagan conversations have become political. And I don't trust Trump!
Back in the 1980s and through the first part of the 2000s, some pagans used to make fun of how certain Christians made their religion very political. It wasn't all of us, but it was enough. This is what set monotheisms apart, the tribalism and the politics. How could anyone watch a desert sunrise and believe that it was political?
This morning someone told me that it was a holy duty to protect the planet from Trump and his deplorables.
Gaia is not a frail child that must be protected from all harm. The World will still bring forth life millions of years after our great-great-great grandchilden's grandchildren have dissolved into dust. She did it millions of years before our great great grandparents worshipped Her. If She decides She doesn't want us, we're done.
Politics is about controlling other people. The Earth is beyond politics. The Earth is beyond humanity.
How dare we try to limit Her!
Pagans should know better. We've spent generations being told that FOR OUR OWN GOOD, Christians in their "god-given wisdom" would run our lives.

Religion cannot be allowed the coercive power of government. Government cannot be allowed the moral justification of religion.
Leave my faith out of your politics.
