Occasionally I wandered in where I was not wanted and gave truthful answers.
Sometimes I even did it deliberately. A little disruption now can prevent disaster later.

I am not a horse person.

I rode occasionally as a kid, mostly at summer camp. I have relatives who have horses, but I haven't seen them in decades. I know just a little about horses.

I saw a horse "broke" once. It was time consuming. It was brutal. That was enough to convince me it was wrong.

Years later, I ran across The Man Who Listens to Horses by Monty Roberts. Yes, the same gentleman in this video. When I read the book, YouTube was still far in the future. But I was lucky to catch a clip on TV of the join up process.

It floored me. Even as little as I knew about horses, here was something completely different. It was wise, it was compassionate, and it had a power the words in the book never had.

I'd read enough to know that Roberts' work probably wasn't original with him (look up horseman's word in ABC of Witchcraft Past and Present). But the story of how he learned and how he applied what he learned, that was fascinating. YouTube has plenty of videos about Monty Roberts and join up, this is just one.

The man respects horses and they respect him. He honors four-foots. There is something there to learn beyond join up.
