Bright Morning & Dry RainMusings amid noise and road
resurfacing
G'morning!
I'm trying to get a jump on things. As I am writing this before six in the morning, I can hear the trucks and equipment starting up to lay blacktop. They did three-quarters of the other half of the street yesterday afternoon, so maybe today they'll finish and all I will have to put up with is the noise and dust. This morning I hit the grocery store. There was one of those desert weather things that you may not have heard of, the dry rain. Yep, such things actually exist. It's rain, but you don't get wet. The rain evaporates that quickly. About the only way you can tell is these gentle soft touches of cool on your skin. If it spots the street or ground, the spots "poof!" in less than a minute. The spots stay longer on cars, maybe two or three minutes. If you ever get a chance, you should experience it. I'd say it's best nude, but I don't have the privacy right now. There's also the winter equivalent, dry snow. That you can see falling, but it vanishes just as fast. I finished fixing my fence yesterday. Then I got to watching the lizards. The little guys are really out in force. I'm not sure if it's because the digging destroyed their homes or because it stirred up the bugs, but I love watching them. The little darty movements, the quick blup blup of their tongues, the chip of black shadow that is their eyes. I'm into all the creatures except slugs and snails. Those I can't stand. Since the fence is finished, I did some temporary warding. A few windings of cord, a piece or two of metal and glass, and a careful knot. It will hold long enough for me to do a full consecration and warding at the full moon. Lady in the Court of Stars. There's probably nothing to worry about, but it helps my peace of mind enormously. Or maybe that is a piece of my mind. Hang on, I'm going to grab some OJ. OK, I'm back. Had to shuck the shoes too. One day they'll make decent shoes without arch support, but until then I'll deal. That's one reason I have a soft and fluffy rug under my desk here. The neighborhood cats handle the noise and the distractions better than the birds. Me, I just wanted to open the house up last night and let the breezes flow, but there is too much noise and that blacktop smell for that. Maybe tonight. Don't tell anyone, but I'm going to sneak out for breakfast in a bit. I picked up some smoke-roasted chicken lunch meat, and I have some Swiss cheese and a bit of almond wheat bread from the breadmaker. It's too late to watch the sunrise this morning, but not too late to see the color bloom in the canyons as the sun climbs up. This is the land that forged my soul and I have to renew that every once in a while. I promise I'll have some deep thoughts later, but right now there's too much truck noise outside and there's a canyon calling my name.
